Invite someone or join a home
Add someone to your Holty household with a single-use code, or use a code to join an existing home.
Holty uses invite codes to add people safely. The person creating the invite chooses the new member's role and how long the code remains valid. The person joining can check the home, role, member count, and expiry before confirming.
Treat the code like a key
Each code is for one person and can be used once. Send it directly to the person you want to invite rather than posting it publicly.
Before you start
- Both people need their own signed-in Holty account.
- Only a home Owner or Admin can create an invite.
- An invite can give the new member the Adult or Admin role. The Owner role cannot be assigned by invitation.
- Invite codes expire after 24 hours, 3 days, or 7 days, depending on the option selected.
Invite someone
Open household actions
From the dashboard, tap your avatar in the top-left corner.
Open Invite Member
Tap Invite Member. This option appears only for Owners and Admins.
Choose access and expiry
Choose Adult or Admin, then choose 24 hours, 3 days, or 7 days.
Generate and send the code
Tap Generate Invite, then use Share Invite or Copy Code. Send the six-character code to one person.
Join a home
Open Join a Home
From the dashboard, tap your avatar in the top-left corner, then tap Join a Home.
Enter the invite code
Enter the code you received and tap Next.
Check the invitation
Confirm the home name, member count, your role, and when the invite expires. You can also change the display name other members will see.
Join and open the home
Tap Join home name, then tap Go to home name on the confirmation screen.
After joining
The joined home becomes your current home. Your other homes remain available, and you can switch between them from the home selector. Other household members will see you in the member list.
If the code does not work
| Message or situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| Invalid code | Check every character, or ask the sender to copy the code again. |
| Invite expired | Ask an Owner or Admin to generate a new invite. |
| Maximum uses reached | The code has already been used. Ask for a new one. |
| Already a member | Switch to that home instead of joining it again. |
| Invite Member is missing | Your current role cannot invite people. Ask an Owner or Admin. |
Joining another home does not remove your existing homes
Use the home selector whenever you need to return to a different household.
